Poppy Playtime Chapter 4: Gameplay Trailer Breakdown and New Ally Revealed

Mob Entertainment released the gameplay trailer for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 on January 26, 2025 teasing a new character named Doey the Doughman. Just days before the chapter’s release, Mob Entertainment reveals Doey will be an ally to the player character, Poppy, and KissyMissy. Although, I have my suspicions about Doey. Is Doey the Doughman really an ally or is he an enemy in disguise? Check out my breakdown for the Gameplay Trailer!

On January 26, 2025, Mob Entertainment released a video titled, “Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 Gameplay Trailer – Doey the Doughman”. In the trailer we got introduced to a new character in Chapter 4 called Doey the Doughman. He will be an ally for the player, Kissy Missy, and Poppy.

Doey the Doughman appears to be made out of colorful play dough, blue, yellow, and red/orange and wears a miniature black top hat. Due to him being made entirely out of play dough, this allows him to morph through any cracks, as seen in the trailer when he drips through a grate in the ceiling. This ability could prove to be monumental during the gameplay in Chapter 4, allowing him to naviagte hard to reach places for his allies.

Watch the gameplay trailer for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 here! In this trailer we are introduced to a new ally, Doey the Doughman.

Chapter 4 BREAKDOWN

The trailer starts with a jingle being played as strange colorful (yellow, blue, and red/orange) substances drip onto the floor from the ceiling.

“He’s stretchy, he’s gummy, he’s squishy, he’s funny D-O-E-Y Doey!”

-Jingle from Chapter 4 Gameplay Trailer

There’s a broken jail-like door in the background, implying something has escaped through. This is backed up with a red alert light flashing within the dark compound. Is this alert meant for Doey or someone else? Yarnaby? Baba Chops?

The screen cuts to black and Poppy starts speaking.

“Down here it’s not like anything you’ve seen above…it’s hell.”

-Poppy, Chapter 4 Gameplay Trailer

An establishing shot of jail cells are shown reaffirming that Chapter 4 will take place within a prison setting.

The player character appears sporting the GrabPack 2.0 with a blue hand on the left and a purple hand on the right.

Obtained from the previous chapter, the GrabPack allows the player character to perform a variey of abilities. The blue hand allows the player to grab/move things from out of their reach and the purple hand, the Rocket Hand, allows the player to launch themselves off of a desiganted platform high into the air.

The player overlooks what appears to be a decrepit jail yard, a place for the toy experiments or kids to be experimented on, perhaps?

Red poppy gas fills the scene of the next shot. The red poppy gas was used to put the children asleep in Chapter 3. In chapter 4, it could’ve been used to subdue the toy experiments.

Poppy continues to speak:

And Playtime wanted it to be.

-Poppy

The Doctor appears with his giant eye within an old tv attached in the corner of padded walls. This room could’ve been used for a more aggressive toy experiment. Perhaps for one of the bigger bodies?

Hmmm… now what’s this?

-The Doctor

There’s a series of shots shown as a new voice speaks, presumably Doey the Doughman.

They called him… The Doctor. He works with the Prototype. Commands everything down here. Hunting us. Starving us.

-Theorized to be Doey the Doughman speaking

The series of shots shown are:

  • The symbol of the prison
  • A room filled with tv monitor screens
  • A jail cafeteria, with a dead employee (the first human we’ve seen within the Playtime Co. factory) and a red GrabPack hand laying on the floor with a flashlight equipped
  • More areas filled with red Poppy gas
  • The Bigger Bodies version of Yarnaby
  • A mural of “Safe Haven”

Mural of “Safe Haven”

I wanted to talk about the shot of the mural depicting a “Safe Haven”. It shows the arms of what appears to be Doey the Doughman “protecting” a bunch of upset toys. It’s up to debate whether Doey the Doughman is truly an ally or an enemy is disguise.

If he’s an ally, then the “Safe Haven” truly might be a safe place for toys. I want to think Doey is a good ally, but something about his character makes me feel like he will betray us during the chapter. In the gameplay trailer, he states “I failed you.”. It’s unclear who he says this to, but possibly it could be towards the player, KissyMissy, and Poppy. Or, could he be saying this to The Doctor or The Prototype?

This next section is purely speculation:

These toys have been shown in previous chapters.

I believe these are the names of the toys shown:

  • DogDay
  • BearHug
  • Bron the Dinosaur
  • KickenChicken
  • Bunzo Bunny
  • Hoppy Hopscotch
  • CraftyCorn

It’s unclear why Bubba Bubbaphant and PickyPiggy aren’t shown, considering a majority of the Smiling Critters are depicted in the mural. It makes sense that CatNap isn’t among them since he was the antagonist of Chapter 3.

Perhaps Bubba Bubbaphant and PickyPiggy were followers of CatNap or maybe they were just killed right away and couldn’t escape.

What’s interesting is that Bron the Dinosaur (red and yellow) and Bunzo Bunny (yellow with green hat) seem to appear in the mural. The Bigger Bodies version of Bunzo Bunny was killed in Chapter 2 by Mommy Longlegs after he failed to kill the player character.

This is all speculation, but my thinking is that the supposed “Safe Haven” is all a facade to lure in scared toys and then punish them or assign them positions if they don’t become a follower under “The Doctor” and “The Prototype”.

In this case Bunzo Bunny was assigned to the Musical Memory and Bron the Dinosaur was put inside the Rejected Room to deter/kill the player character. Let’s not forget what happened to DogDay in Chapter 3 when he was seen tortured and then eaten alive just because he was deemed a heretic against CatNap and the Prototype.

In the mural there are two phrases, “We are safe” and “I’m scared”. It seems implied that these are coming from the group of upset toys. With Doey’s arms reaching out around them in a protective manner and hearts surrounding them, the mural makes it appear like the toys really are in a “SAFE HAVEN”. But, I believe that’s not the case and in fact all just a facade. The toys could be scared to be with Doey.

To the side of the mural, almost hidden from view, is a painting of Poppy with a big red “X” scratched out on top of her. Next to her in capital letters says, “SHE LEFT US!!!”.

Involuntarily, Poppy was placed within a closed case (which we discover in Chapter 1). In the eyes of the toys, she disappeared without a trace, seemingly “leaving them behind”. With nowhere else to turn, Doey the Doughman “helps them”, but I theorize this is all a trap! Perhaps Doey wrote “SHE LEFT US!” and it trying to portray Poppy as the villian to the other toys.

Doey the Doughman appears as our “ally” and helps us in Chapter 4… that is until he betrays us! We will have to wait for Chapter 4 to release on January 30, 2025 for answers to these questions and speculation!

-End of speculation!-

Moving forward with gameplay trailer, there are several voice lines. Here they are in order:

“There are no places you can hide. Not from me…”

-The Doctor

A shot shows the doctor in a room with rows of other tv monitors (other forms he can transfer to).

I’ve got something special in mind.

-Unknown Voice (Theorized: Doey the Doughman)

A shot showing KissyMissy and Poppy together. Revealing that KissyMissy is alive, albeit injured. Poppy also appears stressed, her eyes are bloodshot.

I need to make this right.

-Poppy

Miniature versions of the Nightmare Critters are shown, with the player character shooting fire at them with their right red GrabPack hand.

More dead humans are seen.

Let’s make a game of you.

-The Doctor

Hurry! Let us in!

-Poppy

KissyMissy and Poppy are trying to breakthrough a door, seems like something is chasing after them. The next shot shows Pianosaurus running.

He’s outside!

-Ollie

Where is Ollie in all of this? Is he the voice of “The Prototype” or is Ollie an ally we can actually trust?

A kitchen is shown with large bags hanging from the ceiling. Are these dead bodies/experiments?

I failed you…

-Unknown voice (theorized Doey the Doughman)

Who did they fail? The player, KissyMissy, and Poppy or The Doctor and The Prototype?

Baba Chops is shown, leaping forward towards the Player.

You lied to me!

-Poppy

Who lied to Poppy? The Player character? Doey the Doughman?

Yarnaby is chasing after the Player with his mouth open, revealing his grotesque mouth full of sharp teeth.

Hiiiiyaaaa there pallll! Follow me.

The rest of the colorful play dough from earlier falls through a grate in the ceiling and morphs into a humanoid-monster: Doey the Doughman. He beckons the Player to follow him with his hand.

-End of Gameplay Trailer-

Closing Thoughts…

I was blown away by Mob Entertainment’s Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 Gameplay Trailer! The animation looks amazing! One thing is for sure, the deeper we go into Playtime Co. factory the darker the game becomes. Makes sense, since we’re discovering secrets this toy factory has kept hidden for a long time, deep underground. With so much hype being built up on this chpater, I can’t wait for it to be release on January 30, 2025! I plan to play it right away!

With so many antagonists and allies appearing in Chapter 4, I’m curious what’s going to happen and who will survive to see the next chapter. Who can we trust?

Can we trust our new ally Doey the Doughman?

Stay tuned for Poppy Playtime’s Chapter 4 release on January 30, 2025 to find out!
